About
Anaïs de Valicourt, Bachelor of Science in Medical Herbalism, Certified Herbal Therapist accredited by the Guild of Herbalists.
In my environmental studies, one of the texts we had to read introduced a healer who lived on the border between the village and the forest. He explained that his role was to bridge the gap between the wild world and the civilized world, between the forest and the village. He had to explain nature to the villagers, but also explain to the spirits of the forest the reasons behind the expansion of cultivated land or the hunting of animals. His role was that of a link and a mediator.
So, when I sought to establish myself as an herbalist, I looked for a place at the edge of the wild world, but not too far from the civilized world. I found it in St-Jean-de-Matha, and since then, I’ve been trying to explain nature to humans. I find it harder, however, to explain humans to nature…

Anaïs de Valicourt, Accredited Herbal Therapist, B.Sc. in Medical Herbalism
"For me, it is clear that solutions come from nature, and by working with it, we work for all living beings."
My Story
Since I was very young, I have had a fascination with plants. I loved going on walks in the forest to see the plants grow. I enjoyed learning how to nourish myself with what grew around the house: red clover flowers, wild sorrel, and dandelion leaves. I sought to discover the names of the plants and would flip through the flower guides when no one had answers to my questions.
Later, I worked on plantations and did forest inventories during my early studies, staying closely connected with plants.
It was such a natural interest for me that I never thought of making it a career, until in a botany class at McGill University, I realized that my fascination wasn’t shared by everyone.
I then sought to become an herbalist. Coming out of university with a degree in environmental studies (focusing on the ecological determinants of health), I was already on the path. I wanted a university-level training, and I found it in the UK: a Bachelor of Science in Medical Herbalism. I studied for four years in Scotland at a satellite school of the University of Wales to obtain this degree.
Surprisingly, the plants studied in Scotland were the same as those available here: the knowledge of our native medicinal plants had crossed the Atlantic eastward, just as European medicinal plants had crossed westward.
Back in Quebec, I worked for Herboristerie la Maria to learn how to grow, harvest, and transform plants in our climate.
I then obtained the title of Accredited Herbal Therapist by the Guild of Herbalists in 2010, a peer recognition I am very proud of. I also became affiliated with RITMA to provide you with naturopathy receipts.
In addition to the various ongoing workshops I attend every year, I have received training in massage therapy, aromatherapy, and plant spirit healing, which can be used in my herbal practice.
I grow several plants and harvest many more to offer you products I am proud of. Needless to say, there are no chemicals in the garden, and I gather wild plants with respect for nature.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and teaching it to us without hesitation, with a cheerful attitude. That’s why I decided last year to consult you for a stress and anxiety problem I’ve had since I was very young. Since then, I’ve seen great changes, and it has allowed me to soften each day of my life. A thousand thanks!
